Week 10: Finals

No finals for me, so I left school on Friday to meet Kelly in Richland. Jared had a track meet on Saturday. He took 2nd in the discus. We drove home on Saturday afternoon.

I made sure I was done grading lab write-ups before I left. Of course, there were people who tried to turn in assignments after the due date had passed and someone "accidentally" missed the final yesterday. I'm not sure if they will be allowed to take it or not.

I will be TA-ing three sections of Intro to BioAnth again next quarter for a different professor. There are about 80 students enrolled right now. Labs are at 10am three days a week instead of 8am four days a week. I am happy about that!

I have three classes besides the one I TA: History of Anthropology, Research Mentorship and Primate Evolution. I need to get started on my thesis research experiment during spring quarter so I can run it in spring, summer and fall/winter.

I turned in my final paper for MedAnth and Research Methods last week. My presentation could have gone better. I wasn't nervous until I started talking. The presentation itself was good, but apparently when I get nervous my arms are no longer under my control and sort of flail about. Picture Kermit the Frog when he is upset and that's what I looked like. I also said "um" which is not something I say when I am speaking normally. I will get it though. I just need more practice.

We missed our last Research Mentorship class so that we could meet the final of the 3 applicants for the open professor position. I don't know which candidate I would choose if I were on the hiring committee. I liked them all.

I chose my housing for the next school year. Grace and I will be living in an apartment for families on campus. I am looking into homeschooling her through one of the online public schools. Although she is doing fine academically, she is not happy at her middle school right now. Plus, she needs her mom around and I will need her around too. We are taking her cat Smudge with us. He and Snippy don't get along, so it will be good for him.

Spring quarter starts March 29th. I will be here until the 28th. It's really good to be home!
