Week 9: Dead Week

This is the last week before finals for winter quarter. I am going home for Spring Break.

In MedAnth, I just have my final paper to turn in during finals week, one more writing workshop in the library and an extra credit lecture to attend. I don't need the extra credit yet, but we shall see I bomb the final paper.

We are doing mock thesis defense for Research Methods. I will be first on Tuesday-and first over all. I am almost done with the paper for that and I started on a PowerPoint to go with my presentation. I am a bit nervous about it. I know what I am doing for my thesis, but I have been constantly tweaking it over the last 8 weeks, so I don't feel very fluent in it yet. I just have to keep telling myself that I will know more about forensic entomology and my case study than my audience will and act like it.

There is one more Research Mentorship class. I don't know what we are doing for that. My goals aren't up to date, but they will be by Tuesday.

In Intro to BioAnth, the students have one more lab. They are comparing Homo skulls to Australopithecine skulls. This lab and the last one are all due this Friday by noon, no exceptions. So, I still have 160+ lab write ups to grade before the end of the quarter. They take their final on the 15th.

One of the students in BioAnth said something really funny the other day. She asked me what my thesis topic is and I answered Forensic Entomology. She said she didn't know they did forensics on bugs. She thought I meant that I find dead insects and try to figure out how they died like they do for humans on CSI. Her lab partner could not stop laughing. She was so embarrassed. Lol!

Since I am procrastinating and not finishing my papers and presentation right now, I have time to make a lovely graph showing how many times someone has yelled a particular name outside our window in the courtyard (which echoes) since we have lived here.

From the graph, you can see that "Damn, Daniel" is winning, followed by Heather and Chelsea. Yes, I am the Heather they were yelling for (Thanks Nambi and Christopher for that.) Yes, that Damn, Daniel. Ugh! We suspect that as the weather gets nicer, there will be more frequent instances of courtyard yelling and we will add to the list as that occurs.

I feel like I should say IF the weather gets nicer. We've had some sort of sunny days, but we've had more REALLY windy, rainy days than anything. It's super windy right now. I can't wait to go home and see the sun and blue skies and my family too of course. :)
