Week 1: Winter Quarter Begins

Winter quarter started on Tuesday. My schedule goes like this:
Monday: BioAnth Lab TA 8-10am, MedAnth 1-2:20pm
Tuesday: BioAnth Lab TA 8-10am, Research Mentorship 12-12:5pm, Research Methods 3-5:15pm
Wednesday: BioAnth Lab TA 8-10am, MedAnth 1-2:20pm
Thursday: BioAnth Lab TA 8-10am, Research Methods 3-5:15pm
Friday: MedAnth 1-2:20pm

There were no labs the first week, so I haven't had to get up early yet. I am not looking forward to starting that tomorrow.

My cohort and I were assigned office space. The four of us share an office with four desks in it. I don't have official office hours. It's by appointment only. I will have about 80ish lab assignments to grade each week in addition to the two hours a day in the lab and extra time helping set labs up/cleaning up. I don't have to attend the daily lecture for the class though.

My MedAnth class is also an undergrad class. There is one other grad student in there with me. We will do the same assignments but double the page requirements. I am stuck at 5.25 pages of a 6 page assignment right now.

MedAnth is held in the osteology lab. There's a full skeleton in the front of the room. The professor would like to cover it. That's fine. What's not fine is the guy who thinks we should dress the skeleton. He said "we gotta figure out if it's a boy or girl so we know if we need to put a bra on it." Really?!

Crystal and I rode the bus for a quick trip to the store the other night. It turned into a 3 hour tour. There's a weird gap in the bus schedule where the bus we needed stops running for awhile and starts again later. We hit it right in the middle of that gap and ended up circling on the wrong bus for awhile. Crystal noticed we passed the same places twice and figured it out. We got off the bus and had to wait 45 minutes. Fortunately, we were able to wait at Starbucks and drink cocoa. I would have stayed on that bus as it drove in circles for a lot longer before I figured it out.

It was harder to come back after spending winter break with my family. I miss them lots. Kelly's birthday is this week and there's a three-day weekend coming up. We are making plans to meet somewhere in the middle. Hopefully that works out.

Sorry I don't have pics this week.
