This week has been a rough one for a myriad of reasons I don't feel like rehashing, but this was me on Friday....
We are still discussing the book on China's economic and political systems for Theory. I chose a book to present for what our professor calls a "pet theory." I picked Why Zebras Don't Get Ulcers by Robert Sapolsky. He's a primatologist. I attended his Q&A session when he was at EWU and he's awesome! His book has been on my Amazon wish list for a long time, so why not read it for the assignment? The analytic review for this book is supposed to be 2000 words and I present on it the first week in December.
We have moved on to ceramics in Archaeology. Another topic I know nothing about unless you count all those plates I broke during Sunday dinners when I was a kid. There's a test later in the week.
I am working on a annotated bibliography for Archaeology too. My subject is burnt animal bones. It needs to be 15+ sources. That's what I did all day today.
We finished the lab part of our research assignment last week and now we need to put all the data into a spreadsheet. Then we write it up and give a presentation on it.
I have a one on one meeting with our stack's RA this week to discuss Academic goals and how things are going. It's mandatory for everyone in the dorms.
My cohort is responsible for hosting the winter party for our department. We also plan the BBQ at the end of the year. I guess it's tradition. How exciting.
I registered for Winter quarter. I will be taking a research methods class, applied medical anthropology and a seminar class that is supposed to keep me moving along on my thesis research. I will also be TA for one of the intro classes.
It rained a good part of this week. We had 60 mph wind gusts along with sideways rain one of the days. I am told that is normal November weather. Yay for "it's raining but I can't use an umbrella" weather. It's a good thing I don't care what my hair looks like, but I need to get a raincoat so I am not soaked all the time.
I didn't get any lab pics, but I did take some photos on Wednesday when Crystal and I ventured out on the bus to go to Value Village looking for shelves for our little kitchen area. We didn't find any, but it was 50% off of clothing and shoes!
Some pics on the way to the bus stop. It was a beautiful day!
That is the sun! It does shine here sometimes!
There's a giant cloud lurking behind the building.
Bubble bus at the Bellingham bus station. Why is it bubbly? I don't know.
We added more lights to our room along both walls. It's pretty!
Rose likes the purple lights!
This bearded guy on my pear ale the other night made me miss my husband even more than I already did. :)
I got a surprise in the mail today. Kelly sent me a care package with cookies and brownies that he baked. :)
I will be headed home a week from Tuesday after my last class for Thanksgiving Break! I can't wait to see my kids (and Kelly) and my cats. I also can't wait to sleep in a bed that doesn't feel like it has a mattress made of stone. Oh my aching back! I am a little bit nervous about driving back in the dark. I hope it doesn't rain. Or snow.
I'll bet you can find someone to drive with you. Lots of students going home for Thanksgiving. Women only!! :-)
