I was supposed to leave for home after my last class on Tuesday, but I woke up to a message from WWU's President that said all classes were canceled. Yay, I could leave for home early, but the reason they were canceled is a bummer. There has been an ongoing conversation concerning Western's mascot-a Viking. I guess that conversation turned to threats on social media directed towards students of color at WWU. Classes were canceled to keep everyone safe and to give the administration and law enforcement time to investigate.
That meant that I left school at 11am on Tuesday instead of 6pm. The roads were fine. The pass was wet, but not icy. I didn't encounter any adverse driving conditions until I was almost home. The sideroads near my house were all icy. The highway was clear though.
It was great to see my kids! The cats acted like I hadn't even left. The geese threatened to nibble me, as usual. Kelly has lost about 40 pounds keeping busy so he won't think about how much he misses me. <3
I made 11 pies on Wednesday. 4 pumpkin, 1 peach, 1 apple, 1 chocolate pudding, 1 cheesecake, 1 lemon pudding, 1 no-bake cheesecake on gluten-free crust and 1 chocolate pudding on a gluten-free crust.
Thanksgiving dinner was a 21.8lb turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, yams, stuffing, green bean casserole (1 regular, 1 gluten-free), rolls, fruit salad (1 with bananas, 1 without bananas), cranberries, olives. They have eaten most of it already.
It took me about 6 hours and 45 minutes to drive back today. It was foggy until I got to the top of the pass and then it was sunny. The roads were clear and dry for the most part. There was lots of traffic coming into Bellingham and a couple of accidents that slowed things down, but for the most part, the drive wasn't bad.
I have a week of class left before finals week. I give my Theory presentation on Thursday. My annotated bibliography for Archaeology is due Tuesday. Our research project is due this week and presentations for that start on Friday and finish in finals week. Then I get to go home again and stay there until after the first of the year!
I always want to stop on the side of the road and take pictures, but I don't think it's very safe to do so. I took some crappy photos while I was driving on Tuesday.
