F16W2

Last week kicked my behind. It was the first full week of the quarter, so I had classes every day. My classes start at 9am three days a week and 8am the other two. I usually leave an hour before my first class to help set up the lab. It's barely light out when I leave on the 8am days. I am so not a morning person and I am still not used to the 20 minute walk each way.

My oldest boy sent a bike with me this week. It's much quicker to ride, but then I show up for class all sweaty and noodle-legged. Bellingham has bike lanes all over, but the cars still whiz past right next to me. Yes Mom, I have a flashing red light on my backpack and I am wearing a helmet.

So far in osteology, we have covered quite a few bones. Dr. Stevenson has lectured on the hyoid, the ribs, the vertebrae, scapula, clavicle, the humerus, the radius, the sternum the sacrum and coccyx. The practicum is in November.

In 215 (Intro to BioAnth), the first lab was on genetics. We discussed Sickle cell disease, autosomal recessives and dominants along with, sex-linked diseases like hemophilia and red-green color blindness and why there are no male calico cats. We did Punnett Squares. (I love Punnett Squares!!) I will have 80 lab write ups to grade each week for this class.  We are doing skull comparisons between humans, chimps and gorillas this week.

The weekend went by way too fast. We went home to see the family. With the road construction, it was a sixteen hour round trip. I'm exhausted, but it's worth it to go home.

I have a bitty new friend. Dr. Stevenson gave him to me. He's not anatomically correct, but I love him anyway. He needs a name. Suggestions?
