Kelly was here for part of the week last week. He got here on Saturday afternoon. On Sunday, I went to the lab for about an hour before we went for a drive and ended up at Lake Padden. We walked the 2.5-mile loop around the lake. It's really pretty. People run, walk and bike around the lake. There were lots of people walking their dogs and they have an off-leash dog park.
Grace took photos.
I don't know what this means and I don't think I want to know.
This week in osteo, we covered the tibia, femur, fibula, talus, calcaneus, metacarpals and metatarsals. My quiz scores this week were 9.67, 10 and I think 10 for Friday's quiz. We'll get that back Monday.
Intro to BioAnth was still a little bit chaotic. Because of the missed lab day last week and how crowded it was on some of the lab days, we gave the students extra time to come into the lab to work on their skull comparisons. So, counting my osteo class, my office hours and the extra lab times, I was in the bone lab about 5 hours a day last week. I am spending most of today reading and grading the skull comparison lab write-ups. Most of the students turn them in online, but I do have a few paper copies to grade as well.
This week the students are comparing the upper limbs, scapula, hands and feet of chimps to that of humans. They are looking at similarities and differences keeping locomotion (bipedalism vs. quadrupedalism), tool use/manipulation, habitat (arboreal vs. terrestrial) in mind. They are supposed to look for behavior or bone evidence that humans have an arboreal past.
Earlier in the week, I graded the Punnett Square section of Exam 1. Grace said I made mean faces and used a few bad words. I like Punnett Squares. They are fun! The ones on the exam are pretty easy. One autosomal recessive cross, one autosomal dominant cross and one x-linked cross using hemophilia.
Kelly hung out with us until mid-week. He watched quite a few episodes of Zoo on Netflix while he rested on our couch. Maybe when he feels better he can go fishing while I am in class. Kelly went home early Wednesday so he could watch the boys run in their last home cross country meet of the year. It was senior night and I missed it. I did help Kelly put together a gift for Jared including peanut butter cups, brownies and balloons. Hopefully one of the other mom's took some photos.
(My spell checker is trying to get me to put a comma after brownies and before and, but I refuse. No Oxford commas for me. It just doesn't feel right.)
Last photo...Kevin Bacon works at our local Haggen's Grocery store. He is lurking under a table in the floral department. Creeper.
