Week 6: It rained.

Ha, ha the title of this blog. It rains a lot here. A-LOT!

This week I will be finishing up The Creation of Inequality for Theory and staring on China's Motor: A Thousand Years of Petty Capitalism. As you can see from my books, I like sticky notes. I skim the book and mark the passages I need to go back to with a colored sticky note. Orange is the author's main question, pink is theory, yellow is a defined concept, green is data and blue is method. (I also write a ?, t, c, d or m in the margin just in case the sticky note falls out.) Once everything is marked, I can easily find what I need to write the analysis or go back to it during the class discussion.

I am still working with the two other grad students on our research project for Archaeology. We are analyzing non-artifacts from a dig that was done in the 1980s. Non-artifact in this case means rock, shell, bird bone, fish bone, mammal bone and sediment. I have not done much comparative analysis of animal vs. human bone, so I am learning lots of new things. I also learned that after everyone else leaves the building, some people start speaking in weird accents that make me cry. "You just gotta commit!" (Don't ask.)

Kelly came to see me again since my roommate went home for a couple of days. He stayed in the dorm with me. He is not appreciative of twin sized dorm beds with mattresses made of what feels like concrete, but I adore having him here. I miss him (and the kids and even Spokane) so much.

We explored Bellingham a little. This is a section of town called Fairhaven. It's full of shops and restaurants. It was too rainy for more pics.

During a lull in the rain, we went to the beach on the bay.

(Nevermind my weird hairdo. It was windy.)

More beach pics

Kelly wears cammo often. Lots of people on our side of the state do.  I don't see a lot of cammo over here. Everyone wears Seahawks gear though. They are quite serious about their Seahawks.

I wonder who lives here.

Skipping rocks. Let's say this rock skipped a million times and didn't just plop into the water.

The train goes right along the edge of the beach.

I tormented Kelly with my limited knowledge of shell species while we strolled the waters edge. Anyone know what that green one is?

A love note on a rock. <3 Kelly
I am always so bummed when he has to go home again.

After the beach, we found the local casino. (No surprise to anyone who knows Kelly.) Then we went to dinner. We had breakfast the next morning, did some thrift store and grocery shopping before he had to go home. I spent Halloween in my dorm room with homework, Netflix and a cup o'soup.

I received this photo during the week.
I guess the boys have their own methods for dealing with their sister while I am gone. I vetoed burning at the stake, but not walking the plank.

It's a very short clip, but here's what the rain was like last night outside my window. The roof you can see is the glass roof for the daycare patio.
Sorry it's so dark, but you can see the water running over the bricks below the window. My cheapie cell phone doesn't even have flash, let alone a light for videos.
